7 Tricks to Face a Job Interview

"Make sure you are confident about taking part in the job interview with these tips. Read more!"

For some people, the interview stage of the job recruitment process can be intimidating. However, with thorough preparation, it's usually manageable.

Here are some tips you can practice to ensure a smooth interview.

1. Mirror the interviewer's body language
This technique, called mirroring, is often used to build trust and help the interviewer feel comfortable. Try to naturally imitate their movements, tone of voice, gestures, breathing, and so on, without overdoing it.

2. Warm your hands
If possible, visit the bathroom before the interview to warm your hands with warm water or a hand dryer. Warm, dry hands can project confidence.

3. Pay attention to your appearance
This is a common recommendation, yet many people don’t make the effort to look their best. Trim your hair, clean your nails, polish your shoes, and do other small grooming tasks. Wear clothes that are a step above the company's dress code, neat and professional.

4. Don't lean back in your chair
Only the lower part of your back should touch the chair, and avoid slouching. Keep your shoulders straight but relaxed. Aim to appear both comfortable and attentive.

5. Don't interrupt
Some candidates are eager to share their experiences and skills, but always be respectful. Let the interviewer finish their questions or comments before responding.

6. Preparation is key
The more you know, the better your chances of succeeding. Research interview tips, body language, the company, potential interviewers, industry trends, and more. Practice answering common questions.

7. Say thank you
Remember to thank the interviewer for their time and attention after the interview. It's also a good idea to follow up with a thank-you email.
